Raat Akeli Hai Movie Review: Nail-biting murder mystery
Actors- Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte, Shweta Tripathi, Aditya Srivastava, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Ila Arun, Riya Shukla, Shivani Raghuvanshi
Direction- Honey Trehan
Based in Kanpur, an influential landlord Raghubeer Singh (Khalid Tyabji) gets killed on his wedding night under mysterious circumstances, and then a cop named Jatil Yadav (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) gets the responsibility to solve this murder case. While investigating the case Jatil falls in love with Radha (Radhika Apte), one of the suspects. The Chemistry between Radha and Jatil is something to watchable. On the other hand the relationship between Jatil and Jatil’s mother Sarita Kumari (Ila Arun) is quite funny. They both share a humorous bond. Movie highlights the issues like Police corruption, family politics, women exploitation, misogyny and complexes held by men that are generally brushed off and never brought out in public. Raat Akeli Hai has an unpredictable storyline. Twist and turns of the story keep you engaged. The dramatic climax of the movie will astound you, as throughout the movie you will have no idea who the real killer is. The movie has got some brilliant dialogues. If you are a lover of abusive languages dialogue which is in trend in this era of web series then definitely this movie is not for you. Apart from dialogues, Smita Singh has also written screenplay and story of this movie. Pankaj Kumar who is also known for his work in Tumbbad has done a brilliant cinematography. The opening scene of the movie plays out entirely in the dark with nearly no dialogues. This scene develop the excitement that what is going to happen next? As always, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte have brilliantly done their job. Nishant Dahiya has also performed the role of Vikram Singh perfectly. Riya Shukla is impressive as the house-maid Chunni. Tigmanshu Dhulia as SSP, Shweta Tripathi as Karuna Singh, Shreedhar Dubey as Nandu (Narendra Singh), Aditya Srivastava as Munna Raja and Padmavati Rao as Pramila Singh play their parts well. The character of Vasudha Singh (Shivani Raghuvanshi) is complicated because her reality is not revealed until the end; which makes her character important as she will mostly be ignored throughout the movie. Casting director Honey Trehan has done his debut in direction with this movie. Overall the movie is quite entertaining and engaging. Raat Akeli Hai is streaming on Netflix.
